IN 1900'S, HE OPENED THE TEARS UNDERTAKING BUSINESS AT 614 EAST 6TH STREET AND ORGANIZED A BURIALASSOCIATION PLAN AT A LOW COST BY PAYING 5 TO 15 CENTS A WEEK FOR A $50.00 TO $100.00 BURIUL, OVER SO MANY YEARS.

The King-Tears Funeral Home has been in business for more than 100 continous years. Burial Plans have changed over the years.The cost is unbelievable.

Mr. Benjamin Leo Joyce, 1800- Jan. 26, 1980, came to Samuel Hustin College in the early 1900's he taught tailing and participated in the Music Depaartment. He played his trumpet and the violin. He founded the Kealing/Anderson High School Band and had won many State Awards. Mr. Joyce was a , Master Tailor, made his Uniforms for the bands. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Tell us more about Mr. Joyce.

DR.GILBERT IS A GUEST AT THE WESLEY H. PASSON HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 1501 EAST 12TH STREET. DR.GILBERT MET AND WAS MARRIED TO LEWIS VAN ZANDT GILBERT FOR 21 YEARS. SHE CAME TO AUSTIN AS FAST AS SHE COULD,THEN,TAUGHT AT KEALING AND LAMAR JR. HIGH. SHE RETIRED FROM AISD IN 1970'S. SHE WAS AN INSTIGATOR IN THE ORGANIZATION OF SAM HOUTON COLLEGE AND TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY. THE FOUNDER OF PEOPLE BUSINESS COLLEGE FOR BLACK AT 1702 EAST 11TH STREET. FROM 1974 TO1991,SHE HOSTED A TALK SHOW ON KLBJ RADIO STATION.

Afterschool youth on tour at the W.H. Passon were amazed at how"real life like" Dr Gilbert looked. They took notes and learned that their teacher helped to create her for an exhibit at the capital..
Dr Gilbert had a cup of tea.
