The W.H. Passon MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN is located on the Campus of the Blackshear Elementary School at 1712 East 11th Street. This FOUNTAIN was ERECTED IN MEMORY of W.H. Passon when Professor Friendly R. Rice was principal. Help ! Who was the Builder of the Fountain?

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church [1206 E.9th]The oringinal church was located on the corner of West 5TH and Gadalupe Street.

Dr. Lovinggood came to Austin in 1900, after teaching at Wiley College for 5 years. In 1898, a gift of $9,000.00 was received from Mr.Samuel Huston of Marengo, Iowa,for whom the College was named. A one-story building was contracted and in the Fall of 1900, opened with an enrollment of 80 students. A Library with 500 volumes, and in 1905, the enrollment was 419. In 1916, the college had15 acres. President Lovinggood served as the First president until 1916. On October 24,1952,Samuel Huston College merged withTillotson College to form Huston-Tillotson College. Later 1-35 was built. See Historical Marker at E. 12th Street.
